HANDS-ON TRAINING

  • All circuits, components, and Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) devices for each participant.
  • Identification of IED components, and their purpose.
  • Construction of IEDs, and their purpose.
  • Fundamental electronic principles relevant to IED circuit/trigger/fuse construction.
  • Electric and electronic components and their function in relation to IEDs found in current theaters of war.
  • Analysis and discussion of common linear (i.e., relays, capacitors, resistors, and switches) and nonlinear (i.e., silicon controlled rectifiers, diodes, integrated circuits and transistors) electronics components.
  • Understanding of basic through complex IED circuitry and guided instruction through the construction process of each.
  • All circuits shall be constructed using techniques typically seen in terrorist devices and shall be based on real world threats, to include the following classes of devices: Victim-Operated, Command, RCIED, and Time.
  • Constructing IED circuits while not relying solely upon the use of solder less bread boards, and each participant shall have successfully soldered several representative working IED circuits using components typically seen in IED’s.

IED CONSTRUCTION & EXPLOITATION

This course covers the design, construction and exploitation of improvised explosive devices. Electronic Triage - determine functioning, frequency, output power. EOD Technicians must sustain a high level of circuit familiarity in order to diagnose and defeat the system and safely dispose of the explosive hazard. Operators are trained on reverse engineering the IED device and provide detailed analysis of the device.
